Preston: A few years ago I thought their sushi rolls were pretty bad but when I went back last month I actually thought the food had improved. It's still not as good as Shoga (which is just a couple blocks east), but the main reason to avoid this restaurant is not the food, it's the management. My brother-in-law had the teppanyaki grill (steak and rice) and really liked it. What was the worst thing you ate? Preston: I had sashimi one time and it was really bad. The fish just isn't fresh for sashimi. I also notice that lower end sushi places never serve sashimi at the right temperature. It's usually too warm (gross) or too cold (not gross tasting but a little flavorless). How was the service? Preston: The server was actually pretty good. She was pretty busy I think she really tried her best to take care of us. The manager was a different story. I had called in to ask a question about a special they were running. He told me one thing, but then when I asked him about it when the bill came out he admitted that he had talked to me on the phone but refused to honor his promise. His reason was that "he has to make money." That was seriously his justification for lying to a customer's place. I would avoid Sakura at all costs because of this, especially when a good sushi place is just a flew blocks east (Shoga). Would you go back? Preston: No, never. I don't think they will be around long anyway but even if they are I wouldn't go back. |
